About Me
Aimee Miller, LCSW, LMSW-Clinical
My practice is dedicated to conducting comprehensive mental health evaluations for immigration proceedings. I have been working with immigration attorneys and conducting psychological evaluations, in Spanish and English, since 2014. In addition to working with clients in-person and via secure video conference, I have experience conducting evaluations in family and adult immigration detention centers. I am accepted as an expert for asylum, U visas, hardship waivers and VAWA applications and am listed in the UC Hastings Center for Gender and Refugee Studies Asylum Database. I also train attorneys and non-clinical audiences in working with survivors of trauma, including asylum seekers and unaccompanied minors.
Since graduating with my Master's in Social Work in 2005, in addition to my experience listed above, I have worked in inpatient, outpatient and non-traditional mental health settings, providing diagnostic evaluations, individual and group therapy, clinical case management and crisis intervention.

Specializing in Psychosocial Evaluations for Immigration Proceedings
Why remote?
Psychosocial evaluations using telehealth technology has shown excellent efficacy in diagnostic accuracy and client satisfaction. I use HIPPA compliant videoconferencing technology that enables the client to connect to me via their smartphone, computer or tablet. Use of this techology enables me to conduct evaluations outside of normal business hours, preventing clients from having to take off work or travel long distances to complete their evaluation.
Process
Most evaluations take four hours, divided in two two-hour session. Prior to the evaluation, clients will receive a packet of validated assessments to facilitate and focus the evaluation. During the evaluation, we review the client's life history, including personal and family history of trauma, emotional reactions and difficulties and current functioning. Even though the process itself is not intended to be therapeutic, many of my clients report emotional benefit from going through this process.
Expert Testimony
I have extensive experience writing reports for non-clinical audiences. My reports are comprehensive yet concise and easy to understand. After the evaluation is complete, the average report takes one to two weeks to complete. I will review the report with the client so they are aware of the content and can address any factual errors. The report is then sent to the attorney for review and comment.
